When the pain and suffering becomes unbearable and medical professionals agree that no more can be done, I believe, the next steps require love. For love is more important than life itself and The Greatest Love does not expect us to cling to life at all costs. Love. Love of the patient in consultation with the loved ones that would be left behind.
But the patient should be allowed to decide. It is their pain. It is their suffering. It should be their choice regardless of whether their natural death is reasonably foreseeable. And may those patients find comfort in the knowledge that The Greatest Love is a loving god of mercy. Within Their embrace in the heavens all pain and suffering is washed away.
