An open letter to the President of the People’s Republic of China.
To President Xi Jinping,
I was watching when you castigated our prime minister.
How dare you.
Canada is a great nation that stands aside many other great nations that have been founded on democratic principles, rights, and freedoms. And then you berate our prime minister for having an open dialogue with our free press?
How dare you.
The Chinese people are a great people. They deserve great leadership and a government that can foster their hopes, their dreams, and their aspirations.
They deserve a democracy.
And so I pray.
I pray for the Chinese people. That they can see their current government as an obstacle to reaching their true potential. That one day that nation may take its place aside the pantheon of other great nations. Great nations that cede power to their people through fundamental rights and freedoms. Liberal democracies with free and fair elections. For until that day comes China will forever be a great people lacking the respect they deserve from their government and leaders.
A situation that I do not believe is sustainable.
A situation that I believe love will eventually correct.
Sincerely,
-Greg from Canada
